A happy landing

Titan Cranes’ Leibherr 350 tonner came to the rescue when the Hawkes Bay rescue helicopter was put out of action by a gust of wind at Wellington Hospital recently.

The helicopter had delivered a patient to the hospital and was preparing to take off when a wind gust disabled this machine, preventing any further flight.

A call was received half way through the day with General Manager Vaughan Clark quickly organising a detailed plan to mobilise the crane for an emergency lift.

While the situation was rather unusual, the job of lifting the helicopter from the helipad on the roof of the hospital and loading it onto a truck was a fairly straightforward operation that demonstrated the crane’s strength and flexibility.
